I hadn't realised that Black Bears are to be found in some Eastern States before I visited my friend in North Carolina and read the wildlife guide books. Luckily North Carolina is one of the better States and even more luckily we managed to find some bears every day we went looking for them just inland from the Outer Banks. On one such trip we came across a mother and cub quite close to a farm track. Unfortunately as we got in photographic range the cub hid in the scrub but the mother stayed in the open long enough for us to get some images. She then went in to the scrub to find her cub. Late in the evening we also came across a male bear on a side track which was only 100 yards from the main road.
