Bosque del Apache in New Mexico is a favourite destination of wildlife photographers from many parts of the world. The reserve is primarily managed as a winter feeding site for wildfowl, white geese and sandhill cranes. Many of the birds become accustomed to photographers on the tracks around the reserve who are treated to frame filling opportunities of especially the white geese and sandhill cranes. One of the signature shots from Bosque is the early morning lift off of the geese and cranes against a blood red sky. During my recent visit the weather was against us with either mainly clear or cloudy early morning skies. However we did see some colour in the sky which hinted at the incredible possibilities.
