Kittiwakes are very delicate looking birds and have been having a bad time recently at a number of their colonies. We were told during our visit to Bempton RSPB Reserve that tagging had shown the Kittiwakes were having to spend nearly double the time out at sea collecting food before returning to feed the chicks which was obviously having an effect of chick survival.
