We had visited the Starling roost at Gretna a few years ago and were keen to see this spectacular sight again. This year the roost had moved a few miles along the A75 to Rigg. Some of the Starlings initially perched in a few trees quite close to the road and would keep taking off, fly around and land back in the trees. Eventually they flew off and joined the majority of the Starlings massing over the Solway Firth. Unfortunately they were at quite a distance and the actual roost site was not accessible by road. However we were reasonably pleased with our efforts, especially on an evening with some good colour in the sky.
