The second Vulture hide we went in during our recent trip to Southern Spain was both spectacular and slightly disappointing. Once the Griffon Vultures started to come down they came down one after another directly towards the hide and landed only 20 metres, if that, away. It looked like traffic control at Heathrow airport were having a bad day and let all the planes come down together. The disappointment was that we were not ready for such short lived action and we had also gone into the hide too early in the afternoon meaning the sun did not light up the under wings as the Vultures landed. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and if we had waited another couple of hours the results would have been hard to beat but we did have a long drive afterwards, so that is our excuse! It has also meant more work in Photoshop than I like to lighten up the shadows. As well as the Griffon Vultures a small number of Black Vultures also landed but unfortunately they did not stay as long as we were told was normal as a they were spooked by a low flying helicopter.
