Islay is an Island we have been to before and much enjoyed so it was a pleasure to return this March. We were treated to typical Scottish weather with snow, frost, rain, sun and plenty of wind. We thought the Geese were a bit more skittish than previously, maybe because they were massing to return to their breeding grounds or maybe because the Barnacle geese are now shot. It does seem strange that the RSPB maintain Loch Gruinart reserve to help the geese while shooting is allowed to reduce the numbers.  Let nothing get in the way of money!  It was a dilemma to return to Islay which has been vociferous in calling for drastic reduction of the geese numbers and I don't think we will be back again until the cull has ceased. We were a little disappointed in the number of hares which wanted their photographs taken by us, perhaps there were better photographers around but one or two came within range of the car.
