Before we set off to Somerset we wondered if it was worth a visit to Steart Marshes under the ever growing backdrop of Hinckley Point C nuclear power station. A fortuitous chat with a fellow photographer at Ham Wall  made our decision for us. Steart is managed by the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust (WWT) and is a departure from their traditional mix of collection and wild birds. They have spent a lot of money on hides and footpaths around a couple of large scrapes, a breach in the sea defences and developed a fresh water trail around a number of ponds that look good for dragonflies. All in all, a very impressive development. The main attraction from a photographic angle were the Avocets from the Quantock hide. Even though the hide was closed due to Covid restrictions, the substantial screens next to them were ideal for photography. Thankfully there was no wind or the for an hour or two so we were treated to lovely reflections although the reflections from the overhanging power cables were a bit of a pain...
