Pre Covid we visited Skokholm, a fantastic Island of the Pembroke coast, and met the the very friendly Northants Ringers lead by the ever enthusiastic and font of all knowledge on ringing Kenny. He invited us back so we leapt at the chance to photograph Storm Petrels again and of course to spend time with the group. The week we visited coincided with the hottest weather of the year and thankfully Skokholm was spared the worst of the heat with a fresh breeze taking the edge off the temperatures. It was a shock when we got back to the mainland but thankfully the heatwave only latest another day. As for the Island itself the wardens, Richard and Giselle, were their usual welcoming and inspirational selves, always making time to chat and answering the many questions they must have been asked thousands of times before, when they have a million jobs to do. The accommodation and facilities improve on every visit and thankfully cold and damp rooms are a distant memory. The birds were fantastic as always with us just catching the tail end of the Puffins, Razorbills and Guillemot breeding and there was always something to point the camera at. So a big thank you to Richard and Giselle, Luke, Kenny and all the Northants Ringers for making this one of the best weeks we have spent on Skokholm. We must start with the Puffins as the light was fantastic most evenings in Crab Bay as they circled round or brought food for their chicks and our Canon R5's with the eye tracking focus meant we obtained many more sharp flight images than ever before. The downside is all the time required for editing and processing the images! We hope you enjoy viewing the images as much as we enjoyed taking them and we will start with some traditional Puffin images.
