LATEST IMAGES - WEST PAPUA1

After Singapore we headed off to West Papua not quite sure what to expect, we knew it would be hot and sticky and it certainly was. Obviously our prime aim was to see and photograph Birds of Paradise. Our local guide had arranged for us to visit three areas which wereall very productive in their own way. Nimbokrang in the East was our first port of call and this was especially good for Lesser  Bird of Paradise and also we managed a few images of King Bird of Paradise. The Arfak Mountains produced images of Magnificent  and Superb Birds of Paradise, Western Parotia and Black-billed Sicklebill while Waigeo Island was great for Red and Wilson's Birds of Paradise. With us spending so much time in hides for the Birds of Paradise we didn't get to photograph many other birds but this was more than made up for by the beautiful display of the Birds of Paradise. The trip was hard, hot, sticky with long walks to some hides and trying to take images in very dark conditions was challenging for us and for the photography kit. ISO levels rarely fell below 10K and we have had to invest in the best Noise Reduction software to process the images. It is remarkable how clean the images become after putting them through either Topaz or DxO noise reduction software.
