We are always on the look out for interesting places to visit and unusual or difficult species to photograph. When we came across a trip to Romania to have a slim chance to photograph European Lynx we took a gamble and went for it. Everything about the trip was great except, you have probably guessed it, no Lynx. We calculated we had spent 35 hours in a couple of hides but no luck although we saw plenty of Roe Deer, their main food, go past the hide. We did pick up a Lynx on a camera trap near to one of the hides but we were in the other one! Normally we would have split up and covered both hides but the guide didn't want to leave us on our own when there was a chance a Bear might come and investigate. Needless to say we didn't see any Bears either but we did see one on the camera trap and also saw plenty of their footprints along with Wolf prints. What made it worst was two days later the next guest saw and photographed a Lynx from the same hide we'd been in on his first visit!  Still you win some and lose some and we definitely lost out this time. We did take a few shots of birds during walks around the Forest when we took a break from the hides.
