Alaska had long been on my 'wish list' and this July I finally got to visit the northern most State of the USA. The journey to Silver Salmon Lodge on the Cook Inlet is a a long one from the UK but definitely worth it. The easiest way to get to the Lodge is by small plane from Anchorage, but as I am not a great flyer, I was a bit anxious about this flight especially as two friends crashed a few years ago on their way to a similar Lodge. Luckily they are OK and the weather was kind for both journeys which meant two very smooth flights. The Bears around the Lodge have not been hunted for a number of years and now do not see humans as a threat. Consequently the Bears are not bothered by people taking pictures and to come within a few yards of these magnificent creatures is certainly an experience I will remember for a long time.
