On my way home from Yorkshire I calls into Blacktoft Sands an RSPB Reserve for two reasons, one I hadn't visited it before and secondly because there had been reports of a Barn Owl hunting and perching in front of a hide. The Barn Owl did come close to the hide but the unfortunately the light was poor when it did and it didn't hunt close enough for photography. However it is always nice to see a Barn Owl and I'm sure a few visits would produce some lovely images. While I was waiting I was treated to distant views of up to seven hunting Marsh Harriers and a fly past of a male Hen Harrier and a Kestrel. The Kestrel came and perched on top of the hide for a few minutes and then hovered  very close to the hide in almost perfect light. Needless to say the camera was put into swift action and  the long wait for the Barn Owl was definitely worth it for the male Kestrel images.
