Short Eared Owls are one of the special breeding birds of the Uists and during our recent visit we were rewarded with many fine views including views of a couple of large chicks being fed with a copious supply of voles. Unfortunately for us we didn't get many close opportunities for photography but with perseverance eventually one would come close enough. We visited the Outer Hebrides a little later than we normally do hoping for a great display of the machair flowers but with spring being later this year the machair looked almost the same to us as it usually does during our visits in May.
