Another bird I was hoping to see during my trip to Portugal was the Bluethroat. I had never seen one so was pleased to find one on the salt marsh near Tavira, although it was a first winter bird so didn't have a blue throat. It regularly came to feed on the dried out bed of a very small pond and wasn't bothered about me sitting down next to the pond, the bird regularly came to within a few feet. I used my hide to sit on and this was the only time I used it. As well as the Bluethroat a number of Chiffchaff's were also feeding on the insects emerging from the pond and its dried out bed.
