Close to the road just outside of Longyearbyen are a number of pools which were attractive to waders and what waders! To see Red Phalaropes, particularly in full breeding plumage, is a thrill for any bird watcher and on the next pond were Red Necked Phalaropes, so the trip was off to a great birding start
