On our expedition to the pack ice north of Svalbard we were lucky enough to come across two Polar Bears who had recently caught Ringed Seals. We saw one small bear chased away from its kill by a larger bear and it certainly could run as the larger bear approached. It resulted in some bloody photography and put to bed the notion that Polar Bear are nice cuddly animals. They eat the fat of the seal first and only eat the meat if they are particularly hungry. The leftovers are soon pounced upon by the Ivory and Glaucous gulls..
