After our excellent Galapagos trip we had a spare day in Ecuador due to a flight change and after some internet searching we decided to have a day with Luis Alcivar from San Jorge Ecolodges in the Andean cloud forest, an excellent choice. We were met at 5.30 am at our hotel and driven up to the first lodge on the outskirts of Quito. As many of the plants had already flowered we went up to Yanacocha reserve high in the Andes. At 3.3K metres we were concerned about altitude sickness but thankfully we were fine. At the reserve we stood in front of a feeding station and were bombarded by lifers and struggled to photograph them all and remember what we had seen. The reserve is run by local people and hopefully in a small way, we helped to conserve the birds.
