The drive up Hatcher Pass to the Independence Gold Mine was well worth it. The walk around the Mine was very informative and brought home the harsh conditions of the early settlers and miners. We were also pleased to see several Hoary Marmots up by the mine although they were impossible to photograph as they fled as soon as we pointed a camera at them!
