There are two main viewpoints of Mount McKinley from the road north, of which we found the southern one to be much the best. We were always on the look out for Northern Lights and we were rewarded with a spectacular display one night. Unfortunately we were staying an hour away from the best viewpoint and by the time we had driven there, the best of the show was just winding down but we did stay out until dawn to photograph the first rays of sun hitting Mount McKinley. Since then we have sorted out an App to warn us of the chances of Northern Lights but wish we had been better prepared in Alaska!
