Much of our photography in PNG away from Port Moresby, was from a boat cruising along a river. The pickings were generally thin but we were treated to a superb view of a pair of Victoria Crowned Pigeons. These are large and spectacular birds but unfortunately heavily hunted. Remarkably we had time to turn the boat around to have a second chance of photography. We knew they were special when the guide got very excited. One of the birding highlights of the trip, even though we didn't see the bird itself , was being shown a Bower of Macgregor's Bowerbird. All Bowers are  a treat to see but this one with a tower of sticks in the middle of a mossy arena was truly a special treat. It was huge- about the size of a tractor tyre.
