St Kilda 40 miles of the west coast of the Outer Hebrides is a fascinating place and has exerted a draw on us since our first visit 20 year ago. On both previous visits, we have slept on a boat in the Bay and have been unable to be on land during sunrise and sunset. This time we joined a photographic group (www.worldwide-explorers.com)  who stayed on the Island in the restored village houses, which was a real privilege. During our time we did get out and about early and late although the sunrises and sunsets were largely disappointing. A highlight was camping on the Cambir and listening to Leach's Petrel flying over the tent. We also saw the long staying Snowy Owl but at a great distance. The MOD establishment has long been an eye-sore but finally it is being sympathetically rebuilt to blend in more with the unique landscape. During our stay the works were in full swing so hopefully by next summer the buildings will be hardly noticeable.
