St Kilda has many massive sea bird colonies around its coasts but one bird we were not expecting during our recent stay was the Red Necked Phalarope. On a pond away from the village, we were treated to a male and a female coming down to feed on the numerous flies. These birds are renowned for being tolerant of people and these two were no exception, we just laid down next to the pond and they came remarkably close, although we did get rather wet in the process!
