Our recent trip to Skokholm Island off the west coast of Pembrokeshire, Wales was our first trip since the accommodation had been upgraded and it has been changed to self-catering. It is always worrying that an upgrade will spoil the character of a place but we found the upgrade had improved the living conditions immensely. Hot running water was a big improvement and this has all been done without spoiling the charm of the island. This was in no small measure due to the welcoming of the visitors by the resident Wardens, Richard and Giselle and the fact that we had very interesting and friendly fellow visitors during our stay. From a photography point of view the Puffins of course are the main attraction with Crab and Mad Bay being the best place to capture images of these favourites. While we were on Skokholm the first Puffins feeding young were recorded so no classic shots of Puffins with sand eels but we were still pleased with some of our images. We particularly liked the late evening shots at Mad Bay with the dark background.
