Our daily routine was to get up early (not easy) and then walk up and down the main track at Shapwick Heath. This was the best place to photograph the Great Egrets as they flew from their roosting sites up and down the reed beds. The light was superb each morning up until around 10.00am when it was too harsh for the white on the birds and the sun had moved a bit too far so it was no longer behind us. It did seem odd to see such a large bird landing most mornings very close in a small tree and it wasn't in the least bit perturbed about us or the numerous cyclists using the track. Another 20 degrees and we could have been in Florida!
