The Gower in South Wales was another area of the UK we hadn't visited before so continuing our theme of acquainting ourselves with our own country, we recently paid the Gower a visit. Luckily we stayed very close to Mewslade, a dry valley leading to the sea, and probably the best birding spot on the Gower. It was a real bonus that we could walk there from our small cottage, which we did on most mornings. We were helped by a local colleague and by a number of friendly local birders especially Ed Hunter. We were pleasantly surprised by the number of Chough in Mewslade, the most we saw together was 17, and thankfully none of them had any rings on. The Chough were relatively used to people so we could get reasonably close and we soon became familiar with their preferred haunts.
