Viewing and photographing Storm Petrels was probably the best highlight out of many during our week on Skokholm. A big thank you to Richard and Giselle for allowing us to take the photographs and to the Northants ringing group for placing the birds in the right position on the wall after they had rung them. This meant we didn't have to alter the flash settings for each image and we could keep the flash on a low setting to minimise any effects on their night vision. The birds were all different with how they behaved once released, many flew straight off but enough stayed for a few seconds to all us to take our one flash photograph per bird. The late nights were certainly worth every sleepless second, it was such a privilege to see these nocturnal visitors to the island land so well.
