While waiting in the Avalon hide for Bitterns and Marsh Harriers to come past we were entertained with the Coots on the water chasing each other about. They seemed to be at it all day and quite often they were near enough for some images. It was also interesting being in the hide for a while to witness how many people seemed to use the hide as a lunch spot with sandwiches, cups of coffee and worst of all rustling bags of crisps! Having spent many hours in hides waiting in total silence for birds of prey this seems to us totally odd, still we must be grateful nobody started talking on their mobile phone!
