Up on the Lammermuir Hills in the Scottish Uplands we were pleased to come across some Red Grouse coming down to the road for grit. We were less pleased to see the burning of the heather. The management of the moors for Grouse shooting is a controversial subject but from our point view so wrong, from the illegal predator control practiced on many Estates to the uncontrolled burning of heather to name a couple of objections. Burning releases so much smoke and CO2 it should not be allowed and only hasn't been banned because of the undue influence of the Estate owners. As far as we understand burning should not be undertaken on windy days and should be supervised, on the day we were in the hills it was extremely windy and there was nobody around any of the burning.
